Hoarding not only causes damage to your health and mental state of mind, but to your home as well. For example, did you know that hoarder houses are at a higher risk for water damage?

Because of the clutter, hoarders often put home maintenance ( such as roofing and pipes) on the back burner, which could lead to pipe breaks and roof leaks. That being said, if water damage does happen, it can be difficult to find due to piles of contents hiding the source. This also makes it hard to restore the damage because of the clutter surrounding the affected area. Additionally, when there is water damage, it is not uncommon for mold growth to happen as a result. Consider the following quote from 24hrflood.com:

“A pipe could develop cracks or leaks, and this problem would not be found for months or even years, becoming a breeding ground for mold. This danger can last even longer when you consider that the clutter in the house must be removed before remediation can occur, leading to mold continuing to grow for a longer period of time. Mold spores can also be released into the air during the cleanup, due to all the moving and touching of damaged materials affected by the mold.”

If you find yourself needing help with hoarding cleanup, water damage restoration, or mold remediation, we are here for you! Give our office a call today for more information on how we can best serve you. We look forward to hearing from you!
